Rain Raaga Homestay is a totally new and pleasant experience in a captivating rural setting. A home away from the ever-busy and usual hustle-bustle of urban life, it is surrounded by lush green plantations and the forest belt. Mullayanagiri - 26KM

Mullayanagiri is the tallest peak in Karnataka at a height of 6300 feet. It is 16 km from Chikmagalur town. Driving to Mullayanagiri is worth taking a risk. On the way is Sitalayanagiri peak, the second tallest in Karnataka at a height of 5300 feet. Ancient Shiva temple is worth visiting here. The road to Mullayanagiri is very narrow with a view from steep cliffs. Driving to the peak is not possible and includes a trek uphill from the half way point. From the top most point of the hill the Arabian Sea is visible on clear days. The small hillock in the temple compound is the highest point in Karnataka. It is a great trekking spot in Karnataka.

Ayyana Kere - 10KM

Ayyanakere (aka Doddamadagada kere) is a lake near Sakharayapatna (aka Sakrepatna) village. Sakharayapatna is named after it’s Palegar (chieftan) of the same name. The lake is a major water source for agricultural activity for several villages around. It is believed that the lake was constructed originally by Rukmangada Raya, the ruler of Sakharayapatna village and later renovated during 1156 A.D. by Hoysala King Narasimha-1. This lake is known for its beautiful landscape with Shakunagiri hill in the background. Unfortunately, due to lack of facilities like hotels and restaurants, there is no much footfall at this place.

Baba Budangiri(Datta Peeta) - 38KM

To the north of Chikmagalur town is the Baba Budan Giri Range or Chandra Drona Parvatha as it was known in the ancient times, which has one of the highest mountain peaks between the Himalayas and the Nilgiris. The peak takes its name from a Sufi saint, Baba Budan, who resided here more than 150 years ago. History says that in 1670 AD, Baba Budan brought coffee here from Yemen of Arabian province and cultivated in Chikkamagaluru for the first time in India.

Habbe Falls - 41KM

This beautiful waterfall is over 10 km away from the famous hill station, Kemmangundi. Here water streams plunge from a height of 168 meters in two stages to form Dodda Hebbe (Big Falls) and Chikka Hebbe (Small Falls).

Deviramma Temple - 4.2KM

Deviramma Temple is located on top of Deviramma hill. This is a part of Chandra Drona hill range and is next to Manikyadhara. This temple is open only during Deepavali. There is belief that Mysore Palace used to initiate celebrations based on an indication (lighting) from this hill. For convenience, there is a modern structure of the temple of the same deity at the foothill.

Kemmangundi - 41KM

Also known as K.R. Hills after the Wodeyar King - Krishnaraja Wodeyar, who had made it his favorite summer get away. Kemmangundi is surrounded by thick forests and a healthy climate throughout the year. It is surrounded by the Baba Budan Giri range and blessed with silver cascades of mountain streams and lush vegetation. It’s beautifully laid out ornamental gardens and enchanting mountain and valley views are a treat to the eyes. Spectacular sunsets are a must-see from various locations in the district, even from the Raj Bhavan. For the adventurous, Kemmangundi offers many peaks to scale and intricate jungle paths to explore. This place has a beautiful rose garden and other attractions.

Muttodi Forest (Wild Safari) - 50KM

Muthodi Forest is considered the most popular section of Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary. Tanigebylu, Lakkavalli and Hebbe are other parts of the Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary. You would get the chance to view many species of wild animals like tigers, sambhar, elephants, spotted deers and gaurs. A variety of species of birds can also be spotted. You can participate in the nature camp that is organized by the Forest Department. Tents and wooden cottages are available for tourists who wish to stay overnight.

Amritapura - 44KM

67 km north of Chikmagalur, Amrithapura is known for the Amritheshwara temple built in 1196 A.D by Amriteshwara Dandanayaka, a general of the Hoysala ruler Veera Ballala II. Delicacy of touch, originality of design and fine features have made this temple one of the notable structures of the Hoysala period.

Horanadu - 108KM

Horanadu is 100 km southwest of Chikmagaluru and has an ancient Annapoorneshwari Temple, which has been renovated recently. With the installation of the new image of Adi Shakti, now the temple is called Adi-Shaktyatmaka Shri Annapoorneshwari. The place attracts lots of pilgrims who are provided free boarding and lodging by the temple.

Sringeri - 106KM

90 km west of Chikmagalur town is Sringeri situated on the banks of Tunga, a Vedic Peetha established by Sri Adi Shankara, the exponent of the Advaita philosophy in 9th Century A.D. It is famous for Vidyashankara Temple originally constructed by the Hoysalas and later completed by the founders of the Vijayanagar Empire and Sharada temple, an early 20th century addition. In the Vidya Shankara shrine, there are 12 zodiac pillars, which are so constructed that the rays of the sun fall on the pillar corresponding to the month.

Belur - 44KM

Belur is known for having some of the most intricate carvings in India. Out of the 92 Hoysala temples in Karnataka, Belur is the best. Some parts have sculptures of dancers, while on the other side its stories from the epics. This temple was built in 1117 A.D. and took three generations to build. It’s in great condition still. Technically, it’s called Chennakeshava temple but most just know it by Belur, the name of the town. Like most Hoysala temple architecture, the platform is star-shaped to increase surface area for future construction.

Halebidu - 55KM

The Halebidu temple is a little bigger one. There are two Nandi’s here (Shiva’s bull) because it’s a twin temple. These Nandis are the 6th and 7th biggest in all of India. Being a Shiva temple, there is a Linga inside. A few notable things from this temple: the hunter and huntress with their kill, Parvati riding her vehicle, the mongoose, and when Shiva killed Nandi’s demon who had taken the body of an elephant. You can see him dancing on the elephant’s body with his nails piercing the skin.

Charmadi Ghat - 90KM

It is one of the spectacular ghat sections in Western Ghats region. The ghat section has 12 hairpin curves and receives very heavy rainfall of over 7000 mm during the monsoon. The travel through these mountain roads is a hair rising experience. Ballarayanadurga is a fort atop a hill located on the Kottigehara - Kalasa route. Enroute Charmadi ghat, there is a waterfall named Bandaje Arbi which falls from a height of 200 feet. Gadaikallu peak has an elevation of 1700 feet. Some of the prominent peaks in this region include Jenukallu Gudda, Baalekallu Gudda and Kodekallu Gudda.

Madagadakere lake - 14KM

Madagadakere Lake is one of the largest lakes situated in a small ethnic village of Yemmedoddi, near Shivgiri forest in Chikamagaluru, Karnataka, India. It is a calm and serene water body where the tourists can enjoy boating or viewing sunset from its banks. The specialty of the place is also accentuated by the belief that the lake was formed by a magical rain shower. This lake is lucratively close to other tourist attractions, like Shivgiri forest which is favorite trekking destination for adventurous people.

Devaramane Hill is a short and easy climb. It also has an 800 years old temple of Bhairaveshwara, built by the Chola dynasty Kings. It is very popular among the locals. There’s a lake across the temple, where wild elephants bathe at night. Here you can find a very rare ‘haarlu’ flowers which bloom once in 12 years. There is a river nearby to frolic in. Devaramane is a lush green valley and it’s a photographer’s paradise.
